My name is Mr
Alamurin Sunday Osedayo, I am from Idoani in Ondo state, Nigeria but I was born
and brought up in Ondo town of Ondo state. I spent every part of my life in
Ondo town before I moved to Ibadan. Going
down memory lane, I attended Local Authority primary school in Ondo town and as
at then we called the school, LA 1, I then proceeded to St. Stephens Anglican grammar school Ondo town where I has my secondary school education. After my secondary school, it was a thug of
war to gain admission into the university and at about eight years later, I was
still seeking for admission but after a while I decided to obtain a preliminary
form for Mass communication at Eruwa polytechnic, Oyo state, Nigeria where I completed
my National Diploma programme in Mass communication.
During my second year
in the school, a man came to talk to us about our future and our chosen career.
During the session, the man gave us a code which was DDD and he explained it to
mean (Decision Determine Destiny) which means that whatever we have decided to
be in future, we must start to make plans for it now, I keyed into the word and
made up my mind to graduate as one of the best and if not the best in my class.
To the glory of God we were about 1,500 of us but I graduated as one of the
best students in my set. Looking at my
result, I decided not to proceed at the polytechnic by pursing my Higher
National Diploma so I obtained a direct entry form to Adekunle Ajasin
University Akungba, popularly known as AAU. I studied linguistics and by the
grace of God, I graduated as the best student in my set. I proceeded to Enugu
State for my National Youth Service Corps. On my return, I volunteered myself
for a teaching Job at winners group of schools Osogbo, Osun state, Nigeria which
was my first job ever and that was where I meet my wife. Not long after, I joined
news real newspaper in Osogbo for a while and left for mutual Benefit life Assurance,
as fate will have it, the opportunity for the Nigerian Tribune came, I applied
and by God’s grace, I am a staff of Nigerian Tribune up till now.
If am to narrate my
greatest challenge in life, it will be in plural form such as” challenges”
because I was always faced with one challenge or the other at every stage of my
life. Starting from having a mother who takes care of her six children all alone
to the fact that I could not gain admission to school on time and working to
feed the family even as a young man. I am the 4th of my parent’s
children and I had siblings who were already in the university at that time, but
one that I will never forget was when I was going to get married. Something happened
that affected me so badly that I was placed on a drug that was to last for
three days. During my engagement, I was carried like a baby to sit beside my
wife while my wife has to support me with her shoulder so that I will not
disgrace myself. I gained consciousness back on Saturday at the wedding when I was
given the microphone and asked to give the vote of thanks. I remember I talked
extensively. However, copping with those challenges has not been easy but God
help me this far. God has been my
strength and I realized that our challenges has help us to be very fervent in
Christ and by the grace of God there is nothing that can come my way now that I
will not be able to cope with. My aphorism in life is “ I don’t care about what
people say about me but I care about what I do in the perfect will of God and I
have reasons for my actions, therefore, my dream continues;
Do not wake me up
until you can tell me my dream has come to pass.
The sweet memory that
I can’t forget is the fact that when I was in primary school, anytime I came first position in school, my
elder brother will carry me on his shoulders all around. You know I was a local
champion. In the past we lived purely
natural life.
My salvation story
was a sweet memory. We were exposed to Anglican from my childhood. After my
secondary school that I could not gain admission for years, I decided to take
up a job so I got a job with a beer parlor. There was this guy we call Ikechukwu from Eboyin state. He was selling something
beside our shop. One day the guy asked that we should be doing bible recitation
together and before then I had never entered a Pentecostal church before but I
don’t know if this ike guy has been praying to God for a soul. There was a
particular day, I was at the beer parlor when I was serving beer and suddenly a
voice came out from my mouth just calling Jesus, Jesus , I left the money, and
everything in the beer parlor shop and ran home and told my mum that I will
never going back to the place as at that time , I was practically the bread
winner I was earning Five Hundred Naira and when my siblings who were in school
comes home my mummy will call on me to give them money. When I said I was not
doing the job again my mum thought I was under a spell and was not happy at
all. All her thought was how we will survive that time but fortunately, the guy
introduced me to the assemblies of God church, rainbow center where he was
attending. I was built in God there, got baptized and grew in God but changed
to Redeem when I went to school because there was no assemblies of God church
in my school then. One particular miracle that have given me assurance that God exist is the fact that I
have a life, I will like to advice anyone reading this story to always follow
God’s direction . one occurrence in life that always make me unhappy is my
ignorance not to have taken education serious, I used to think one should just
go to school and leave it like that but by the time my eyes opened, time and
age was not on my side again my class mates could not call me by name they called me brother Sunday. And that
really affected me and it is a serious pain. I thought mathematics was meant
for exceptional students but when I sat down and determined to pass I made it
even though I did not attend any coaching class ,I read on my own and I made
about five distinction but thank God a lot had my experience and did not make
it. I thank God for where I am presently and where God is taking me to.
