WHY PRAY, IF GOD KNOWS ALL THINGS?

If you have been a christian for any length of time you would have asked yourself at some point "why do we pray when God already knows, does my prayers matter" It is actually one of the questions most frequently asked. God knows who we are, what we are capable of and He knows the circumstances around us, so why pray even so hard sometimes.

According to the book of Acts of Apostles chapter 1 verse 12-14, the first thing the early church did after Jesus' ascension was to return to Jerusalem to an upper room and continued with one accord in prayer and supplication. The casual readying of the book of Acts of Apostle confirms how totally the disciples depended upon prayers and how they dared not make a move without committing it to prayer, seeking God for his guardians and deliverance.

The view of prayer accounts to both God's  sovereignty and man's responsibility. In many situations of life we do not know God's will until we pray, we want to be in line with God's will as his children and the only way to know His will for us is by communicating with him. Prayer is not so much about changing God's mind as it is to bring ourselves into alignment with God's heart.

We Christians of twenty first century are like the people of Isaiah's time, we want God to care for us and meet our everyday needs without bringing ourselves to praise him,  walk in intimate dependence and to pour our hearts to him for others and for our own needs. We are too busy to pray or too tired yet Jesus modeled a lifestyle of prayerful dependence, fellowship and intercession to God.

Prayer binds us to God and that is why we must tell him even though he already knows. He knows what we need before asking but we must pray not to inform Him but to invite God so that we might have fellowship with Him, so that we might grow and learn to depend on Him.
God has chosen prayer as a means by which his people express their dependency upon their father who knows all things and can actually change and attend to any situation around His children.

The God who is in control ask us to pray and that is one of His rules. It is the only way we can communicate with Him. It could be in praises, worship or one on one interaction with Him.

SOME REASONS WHY WE MUST PRAY

1. Prayer builds our relationship with God
2. Prayer helps us to overcome temptations
3. Prayer helps us to overcome depression
4. Prayer helps us understand God's will
5. Prayer accomplishes God's finished works
6. Prayer is a weapon of spiritual warfare
7. Prayer is valuable to God.
